Pinnacle Studio 26 Ultimate cuts price as subscription-free Premiere alternative
TechRadar reports Pinnacle Studio 26 Ultimate is discounted to $89.99/£79.99, pitching a one-time-fee Windows video editor against Adobe Premiere Pro's subscription.
TechRadar said the Ultimate version supports 4K video editing across unlimited tracks and multicamera editing for footage captured from up to six cameras. It also includes motion tracking, smart object tracking, video masking, green screen effects, advanced color grading, blend modes, 360-degree editing and alpha channel export. For audio, the software offers voiceover recording, noise reduction and audio ducking, which automatically lowers background audio to make narration easier to hear. Keyframe controls let users adjust the position, size, speed and appearance of elements throughout a video, while masking can hide distracting objects, blur sensitive information or apply effects to selected areas of a scene.
TechRadar said the more basic Pinnacle Studio 26 is also discounted, to $39.99 from $59.99 in the United States and to £39.99 from £59.99 in the United Kingdom. That version includes six editing tracks, two-camera multicam editing, simplified color grading, keyframe effects, motion controls, a title editor, screen recording and video capture. TechRadar recommended it for users who do not need complex multicam editing or masking tools.
Adobe Premiere Pro costs $22.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, or $263.88 if paid for the year upfront, according to TechRadar. Without an annual commitment, the publication said it costs $34.49 a month. TechRadar said a single year of Adobe Premiere Pro could cost more than three times the price of Pinnacle Studio 26 Ultimate, while Pinnacle's software requires a one-off payment.
In its review of the previous edition, Studio 25 Ultimate, TechRadar found it offered "professional post-production polish without subscription costs." Apart from minor issues with a slow import section, the publication said it met the needs of general video editing workflows that do not require the professional-grade output of Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. TechRadar also said it rated Pinnacle Studio 26 Ultimate as the best subscription-free video editing software in its guide.
TechRadar said Pinnacle's video editing software is Windows-only and lacks the plugin support available from Premiere Pro and Resolve. It is unsuitable for Mac users and for those who rely on Adobe Premiere for professional projects, use other Adobe applications or need to exchange projects with collaborators. TechRadar said the software is aimed at Windows users who want advanced editing features without an ongoing subscription, particularly those who regularly create YouTube content, tutorials, travel videos or personal projects and want more control than basic editing software provides.
