Pioneer launches SDA-SC600 MagSafe car mount with Qi2 and cooling fan

The report, published in 9to5Mac's MagSafe Monday column, said the SDA-SC600 is designed to hold an iPhone for maps, calls and Siri. Pioneer includes a metal ring in the box so non-MagSafe iPhones and Android devices can still mount and use MagSafe technology.

The SDA-SC600 is Qi2-compatible, which the report described as almost the latest standard, Qi2.2. It said car chargers have historically been one of the weaker links in the MagSafe ecosystem, often topping out well below what users get from a wired charger. Qi2 is needed to ensure a GPS navigation device does not drain faster than it can charge, according to the report.

Pioneer's integrated cooling fan is intended for hot climates. 9to5Mac said fast MagSafe charging generates heat, which can be a challenge depending on the climate, and heat can force a slower charge. The report noted that getting into a car on 95-degree days can leave the interior blistering, and said the fan is essential for a MagSafe car charger in places with real summers. Pioneer also lists the SDA-SC600 as temperature-resistant more broadly, saying it is built to hold up in extreme cabin conditions at both ends of the weather extremes.

Pioneer added subtle RGB lighting to set the charger apart from other options, according to the report. In the box, the SDA-SC600 comes with the mount itself, an air vent adapter, the metal ring for non-MagSafe devices and a USB-C to USB-C cable to power the charger.

The SDA-SC600 can be purchased from Amazon or directly from Pioneer, the report said. 9to5Mac described it as a solid option for a MagSafe car charger, saying it supports modern speeds and that the fan should keep it cool. The light was also called a nice touch, including at night.
