Pixel 11's Proactive Assistance Feature Surfaces on Pixel 10 in Android 17 Beta

Google's Proactive Assistance, an AI feature introduced as a Pixel 11 exclusive, has begun appearing in settings on a Pixel 10 running Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, though testers have yet to receive actual suggestions.

The YouTube channel In Depth Tech Reviews found the feature after installing Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 on a Pixel 10 Pro XL. The settings page looks largely the same as the one on the Pixel 11 series, including Google's description of Proactive Assistance as a way to receive "personalized suggestions at the right time."

Once enabled, the feature can draw on information from the screen, notifications and location. It also exposes a separate "Use app content for suggestions" option that lets users choose which apps may contribute information to those suggestions. That matches Google's description of Proactive Assistance on the Pixel 11, where the feature can, for example, suggest a restaurant mentioned in a conversation or surface a loyalty card when the user is at a store. Google has said suggestions can also extend to companion devices such as a connected watch.

Several signs indicate the version on the Pixel 10 is not finished. The same reviewer found an unusual "Android Easter Egg" entry inside the default digital assistant menu, listed alongside Google and ChatGPT. Selecting it did not launch an assistant and instead fell back to the power menu, which Android Authority described as a possible beta-related bug. The tester also had not received any actual Proactive Assistance suggestions, so how well the feature works on the Pixel 10 is not yet known.

Google's help page still lists Proactive Assistance as exclusive to the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold in supported markets, which makes its appearance on a Pixel 10 notable even in beta form. Android Authority reported that the feature may not reach the stable QPR2 release and that Google has made no commitment to ship it there.
