Pixel HiLight Adds Four Colors in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, May Support Messages
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 adds four Pixel HiLight colors and hints at message support, but release timing remains unclear.
The feature consists of a set of LEDs around the camera flash. According to Android Authority, those LEDs illuminate when there is an incoming call from favorite contacts or when a Gemini task is running in the background. Although only five colors were available at launch, Android Authority said it had known fairly early that a total of nine colors could be on the cards.
The latest beta, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, now includes four additional color options. Android Authority said it could now offer a glimpse at these new colors. Separately, code in the same beta update suggests that Pixel HiLight could gain support for messages.
Android Authority reported these findings as part of its Authority Insights coverage. The publication noted that because the changes only appear in the latest Android 17 beta, it is hard to say when they will be widely available. No release date was provided for the new color options or for the possible message support.
The Pixel HiLight feature remains tied to the Pixel 11 Pro, and the new colors and message-related code are visible only in the latest Android 17 beta for now. Android Authority framed the update with a question: whether these additions will be enough for Pixel 11 Pro users.
