Pixel Owners Still Oversleeping as Years-Old Clock Bug Persists

Some Google Pixel owners say alarms in the Clock app still fail to go off, returning only a notification that the alarm "didn't fire for an unknown reason." Android Authority reports the defect has been documented since at least 2021 despite Google's earlier assurances of a fix.

In a report published Sept. 25, Android Authority said newer complaints from Pixel users continue to surface, with the users describing alarms that did not fire when intended. Screenshots shared by those users attribute the missed alarms to an unknown reason. According to the outlet, Google had previously said the problem was fixed, but reports of failures have kept appearing since then.

Missing an alarm can carry serious consequences. Android Authority cited the case of a Pixel owner who lost their job after an alarm did not go off. In that instance the cause was not described as mysterious: the phone became too hot for the alarm to fire.

Android Authority said it has also seen separate reports in which alarms did ring at the scheduled time but were not heard, again for reasons the outlet said remain unexplained. It did not provide a count of affected devices or identify which Pixel models are involved.

The outlet said it has contacted Google to ask whether its teams are aware that the alarm problem is still affecting Pixel users, and that it will publish the company's response when one arrives. Google had not commented at the time of the report, and the company has not publicly confirmed whether a fix is in development.

Android Authority also invited Pixel owners who have experienced similar alarm failures to describe them, saying it would wait for clarity from Google before drawing conclusions about the scope of the issue.
