Pixel Users Report Home and Recent Apps Animation Bugs After Android 17 QPR1
Pixel owners report incorrect home and recent apps animations after Android 17 QPR1. Android Authority says the issue may be limited to the Pixel 10 series and Google is investigating.
The complaints center on how the phone behaves when users move between apps and the launcher. In a post on Reddit’s Pixel sub, the original poster said that on a Pixel 10 Pro XL, returning to the launcher from an app no longer produces the downward animation they previously saw. Instead, the app goes to the recent apps screen and then slides away to the right, according to the report.
The same user also described a second problem when opening the recent apps screen from within an app. In that case, the app icon sometimes gets stuck on the screen while the recent apps screen opens behind it. Android Authority reported that these incorrect animations began after the Android 17 QPR1 update and that Pixel owners have been registering the issue since then.
Android Authority said the issue seems like it might be limited to the Pixel 10 series, though the report did not specify how many devices or users are affected. The publication noted that the Pixel sits at the forefront of Android development, and it has also been a leader in bugs. Google’s response, as reported by Android Authority, is that the company is aware of the problem and is investigating it.
The report did not include a timeline for a fix or say whether a patch is planned. For Pixel 10 owners who have installed the September Android 17 QPR1 release, the described symptoms affect basic navigation: the transition from an app back to the launcher and the display of the recent apps screen. Android Authority’s report did not provide additional details about the cause of the animation errors or the scope of the investigation.
