Pixel Users Report NFC and Notification Bugs; Google Aware of Some Issues

Pixel owners report intermittent NFC payment failures and unresponsive notifications and Quick Settings, with restarts offering only temporary relief.

The NFC complaints have increased in recent days. Affected users say contactless payments and passes have worked only intermittently, and that they began noticing problems last week. A Pixel 11 Pro XL owner reported running Android 17 build CD1A.260905.001.B1 with Google Play Services version 26.34.36 (260400-981326859). Another user also said the latest updates were installed. The reports cover multiple Pixel generations, including the Pixel 8, 9, 10, and 11 series. There is no clear cause of the problem yet. Android Authority said it reached out to Google for comment.

The second issue involves the status bar, notification shade, and Quick Settings. Since Android 17 QPR1 began reaching devices this month, users have reported an uptick in problems. On some phones, the status bar and notification shade fail to display notifications and do not respond to touch input. Over the past few days, at least three Pixel users posted on Pixel subreddits with complaints that could be related: the status bar sometimes fails to show new notifications, and both the notification shade and Quick Settings tiles are sometimes unresponsive to touch. Each post drew comments from users who said they were having similar problems. Google is aware of the issues, but a definitive fix has not been established, according to Android Authority. Affected users say restarting their devices temporarily remedies the issues.

The NFC trouble comes shortly after Google rolled out support for adding physical transit cards and balances to Google Wallet. That feature lets owners of NFC-compatible Android phones use public transportation without carrying a physical card. With the intermittent NFC bug, some Pixel users may still need to keep their cards on hand.

Android Authority said it contacted Google for comment on the NFC problem. For the notification and Quick Settings issues, Google is aware but a definitive fix has not been established. The reports to Android Authority do not identify a specific software update that caused the NFC failures.
