Pixel Watch 5 receives first software update with September security fixes, Gemini focus

Pixel Watch 5 gets first update with September fixes, highlighting Gemini's personalized, offline capabilities.

The new firmware build moves the watch from version CD5A.260611.008 to CP3A.260905.002, while keeping it on Wear OS 7 based on Android 17. As reported, the rollout will happen in phases by carrier and device.

Despite the new build, Android Authority observed that the extensive changelog mostly recaps software features that arrived with the Pixel Watch 5 at launch, rather than introducing new functions. The rundown covers Gemini Personalization, Proactive Suggestions, Offline Gemini, an improved Raise to Talk, GPS tracking improvements and expanded hand gestures. The publication described the update as feeling more like a software recap than a conventional feature drop.

The changelog also shows Google trying to reduce time spent on the watch's small display. The Pixel Watch 5 supports a wrist-turn gesture for universal back navigation, and a double pinch can open notifications and At a Glance, scroll through Gemini responses and workout metrics, switch Google Maps views, and interact with apps such as Wallet and Recorder.

Gemini receives considerable attention in the update. Personalization lets the assistant draw on data from connected Google services, while offline Gemini can handle actions such as starting a workout, setting a timer, and enabling do-not-disturb without an internet connection. One limitation mentioned is that Proactive Suggestions require the Pixel Watch 5 to be paired with a Pixel 11, with Gemini and proactive assistance enabled on the phone.
