PM calls for AI-driven administrative innovation in South Korea

South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-sook ordered swift AI integration in public administration, urging broader use and training for officials.

"With artificial intelligence fast spreading into the daily lives of the people, the AI transition in the public sector should be pursued swiftly and boldly," Han said while presiding over a Cabinet meeting, adding that front-line officials are already using AI and such positive effects should spread across the entire administration.

Han stressed that senior officials should have a better understanding of AI for the success of AI-driven administrative innovation. "The interior ministry and related agencies should accelerate the establishment of a system where public officials can freely develop and apply AI to their work, share results and receive rewards," she said.

The prime minister also asked ministers to ensure comprehensive AI training for all personnel in each ministry and provide substantial incentives for best practices to hasten government innovation. "We will do our best to make 2027 a year when AI-driven government operations begin in earnest," Han said.
