PNY 1TB CS2241 SSD upgrade kit drops to $136 for Prime Day

Alongside the drive, the kit includes a USB 3.2-to-NVMe transfer adapter and Acronis cloning software, so users can move their files and operating system from the old drive before fitting the new one. TechRadar notes that those extras are most useful to buyers replacing a computer's current system drive rather than simply adding capacity, since a bare SSD would otherwise require separate cloning equipment.

The CS2241 is an M.2 2280 drive using PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe. PNY rates it for sequential reads up to 5,100MB/s and sequential writes up to 3,200MB/s. It is designed for compatible laptops and desktop PCs and can also be used in PCIe Gen3 systems, though actual performance depends on the computer, its configuration, the operating system and the applications in use. PNY backs the drive with a five-year limited warranty or TBW coverage and US-based technical support.

At the discounted price, the drive works out to roughly $0.14 per gigabyte before accounting for the adapter and cloning software, and the promotion takes $24 off the $159.99 list price.

TechRadar's buying advice splits on the type of upgrade. The publication recommends the kit for users replacing an existing SSD who want a straightforward way to migrate their current installation to a new drive, since the included adapter and software cover the task. It advises against the purchase if the computer has no compatible M.2 NVMe slot, or if the buyer already owns the equipment and software needed to clone a drive. For those merely adding storage, a bare SSD is described as the more sensible choice.

As an alternative, the outlet points to a 500GB 2.5-inch SATA III SSD rated for sequential reads up to 550MB/s and writes up to 500MB/s, citing low power consumption and backward compatibility with SATA II systems. That listing appears in the same roundup of storage deals rather than as part of the PNY bundle.

【Editor's Summary】PNY's 1TB CS2241 Complete Upgrade Kit is discounted to $135.99 from $159.99 during Amazon's Prime Day sale, according to TechRadar. The bundle combines a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD rated at up to 5,100MB/s reads with a USB transfer adapter and Acronis cloning software. The deal mainly suits buyers replacing an existing system drive, while a bare SSD or a 500GB SATA III option may fit other upgrade needs.
