Poll: 93.9% of readers say Google’s Pixel 11 ad notifications have gone too far
Google’s Pixel 11 promotional notifications through My Pixel have drawn backlash; an Android Authority poll found 93.9% of more than 9,600 readers say smartphone ads have gone too far.
The notifications surfaced as the Pixel 11 rolled out. Android Authority’s Zac, writing from his Pixel 10, described the intrusions and said they could prefigure further product ads from Google. The report noted that because the promotions are delivered through Android’s official notification feature, they feel more invasive than ads shown on a website; web and third-party apps, by contrast, can be handled with blockers.
Managing the Pixel Tips advertising requires a separate approach, Android Authority said. It recommended NextDNS for filtering across several phones, Blokada for simple ad and tracker blocking on a single device, and browser extensions such as uBlock Origin for web content.
The same outlet also published a Pixel 11 case guide on Sept. 2. The recommended options included the slim Spigen Liquid Air, the textured dBrand Grip with customizable skins, and the rugged OtterBox Defender Series Pro for outdoor use. Google’s Pixelsnap Case was highlighted for matching official colorways and working with Pixelsnap accessories; the Mous Limitless was recommended for its reinforced corners and Aramid Fibre backplate. For owners who want a clear case, Android Authority cited the Spigen Ultra Hybrid, noting Spigen’s claim that it resists yellowing 1.7 times longer than typical clear cases.
Android Authority asked readers whether they have disabled Pixel Tips notifications, uninstalled the app, or kept it installed for future use.
