Prime Day: Xteink's tiny ereaders undercut Kindle prices as X4 Pro, X4 Classic and X3 go on sale

TechRadar reports that Xteink's X4 Pro, X4 Classic and X3 ereaders are discounted during Amazon's October Prime Day, with US and UK prices running below comparable Kindle models.

In the United States, TechRadar lists the Xteink X4 Pro at $89.99, reduced from $99; the X4 Classic at $69.99, down from $89; and the X3 at $58.65, down from $69. UK prices in the same report are £84.14 for the X4 Pro, £69.99 for the X4 Classic and £62.25 for the X3, against earlier prices of £99, £89 and £79.

The three devices have screens measuring between 3.7 and 4.3 inches, far smaller than the 6-inch and larger displays on Amazon's Kindle range. According to TechRadar, the X4 Pro comes with a front light and a touchscreen, weighs 72 grams and measures 111 by 69 by 5.95 millimeters, and has a magnetic back that allows it to be attached to the rear of a phone and used as a second screen. The report says books must be sideloaded onto the device, which it describes as its main drawback compared with a Kindle.

The X4 Classic, which launched after the X4 Pro, shares the 4.3-inch screen but drops the touchscreen and the front light. The smaller X3 has a 3.7-inch screen and also lacks both a touchscreen and a light. TechRadar describes none of the three models as particularly expensive by ereader standards.

The TechRadar writer behind the report, who owns an X4 Pro, states that he now reads on the smaller device rather than his Kindle Colorsoft, citing its low weight, pocketable size, battery life and front light. He names the X4 Pro as his pick of the three, with the X3 offered as an option for buyers who want the smallest possible ereader.

The report notes that Prime Day also brings discounts on Amazon's own Kindle devices, and lists a number of other promotions on Amazon hardware, Apple products, televisions, headphones, laptops and smartwatches in both the US and UK. TechRadar's price listings and the writer's assessment of the devices are the sole source for these figures; the prices were current at the time of publication and may change during the sales event.
