ProsperoEden Emulator Runs Switch Games Natively on a Jailbroken PS5
A newly updated emulator called ProsperoEden runs Nintendo Switch games natively on jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, with users reporting 40 to 60 frames per second in several titles during its alpha release.
ProsperoEden is a port of the Eden emulator, which was itself derived from Yuzu. Eden runs on several platforms, while ProsperoEden is built specifically to run natively on the PlayStation 5. The current build is an alpha release.
According to user reports posted on the emulator's GitHub page, Cuphead and Hollow Knight reach 60 frames per second, while Horizon Chase Turbo, Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Metroid Dread run at 40 to 50 frames per second.
The latest build includes work on the OpenGL implementation to improve rendering and performance. It also improves how the emulator handles game loading and how it returns to the launcher after a game is closed. Users can now set handheld or docked mode for each individual game, and the emulator includes DualSense controller support.
Because the release remains in alpha, players may run into problems when playing Switch games on a PS5. The latest version can be downloaded from the ProsperoEden GitHub repository for jailbroken consoles. The project was spotted via VideoCardz.
Android Authority noted that developers have continued to release Switch emulators despite Nintendo's litigious history, with earlier projects targeting Android phones, Windows laptops and macOS.
