Proton Expands Easy Switch for Business to Microsoft 365 Migrations

According to TechRadar, Easy Switch for Microsoft 365 automatically handles migration across the three main categories: emails, contacts and calendars. It does not provide a simple switch for documents or other parts of the Microsoft 365 stack, such as file storage.

Proton said administrators need to choose which data to migrate, connect to the relevant Microsoft 365 account and select which user accounts to transfer. The process is designed not to be disruptive, so users can continue to use their existing Microsoft 365 accounts during the transition. They can send emails from Proton or Microsoft while the migration is underway, meaning workers are unlikely to know what is happening behind the scenes while administrators configure the move.

Raphael Auphan, Proton's chief operating officer, said, "Every week we hear from IT leaders who thought switching email providers would take months of disruption." The company is presenting Easy Switch as a way to reduce that disruption, although the tool does not cover the full Microsoft 365 suite.

Proton cited concern among European business leaders about reliance on U.S. technology vendors. TechRadar reported that 74% of EU business leaders are worried a U.S. tech provider could cut off their access, and that the U.S. Cloud Act is seen as a threat to digital privacy as Europe pushes for greater digital sovereignty.

Proton has been adding tools and features to its Workspace in recent years. The suite now includes Drive, Docs and Sheets, as well as Meet for video conferencing, Pass for password management, VPN and Lumo, a private generative AI chatbot.

Previously, Easy Switch was available only for Google Workspace customers. With the Microsoft 365 expansion, Proton is positioning itself as a migration option for customers of both major U.S. productivity platforms, even as its switch tools remain limited to email, contacts and calendars.
