Qobuz and iFi Audio Launch World Alzheimer's Month Playlist Contest for iFi iDSD GR 2 DAC

Qobuz and iFi Audio launch a World Alzheimer's Month playlist contest, with an iFi iDSD GR 2 DAC as the prize.

The streaming service and hi-fi brand want entrants to create the playlist on Qobuz's hi-res download and streaming platform. Participants then need to visit iFi Audio's competition landing page, complete a few steps and fill in fields, including a short story or description of what the playlist means to them. TechRadar reported that no word count is stated for that description.

Once submitted, entrants have a chance to win the iFi iDSD GR 2, a digital-to-analog converter priced at $529 / £529 / AU$849. The device is designed to upgrade music from a source such as a phone's USB-C port to wired headphones or earbuds. TechRadar gave the iFi iDSD GR 2 a perfect five-star review, praising its sound quality and easy-to-use touch-screen.

The campaign points to research and anecdotal evidence about music and memory. TechRadar cited a study published in the National Library of Medicine suggesting music interventions can 'delay and decelerate the neurodegeneration in individuals at risk.' It also said musical memory remains well-preserved in Alzheimer's sufferers, so a song may help with memory recall. TechRadar's audio editor described seeing music's effect on memory recall in a fellow dancer who, even in advanced stages of the disease, could still perform decades-old choreography when the music was played.

Non-profits including Music & Memory and Playlist for Life provide training, awareness or music-based care to help people with degenerative illnesses, TechRadar reported.

TechRadar reported no indication of how Qobuz and iFi will choose the winner, whether by description, tracks or at random. It is also unclear what will happen to the other playlists; TechRadar suggested Qobuz might publish some favorites or that submissions may be only for the competition.
