Qualcomm Reportedly Plans Official GPU Driver Support for PC Game Emulation on Android

Qualcomm may add official GPU driver support for PC game emulation on Android, including possible DirectX12 support, per Geekerwan.

Geekerwan reported testing Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong on a phone equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chip. According to the YouTuber, both games ran properly in DirectX12 mode using a translation layer. That test suggests that DirectX12-based PC titles can already run on the hardware through translation, but the report did not say when official driver support might arrive or which chips would receive it.

Android already has many PC gaming emulators, and they allow users to run a range of games on phones, tablets, and handheld devices. In many cases, however, the best performance and compatibility require unofficial GPU drivers. Qualcomm’s official drivers could bring improvements in that area, potentially delivering better performance and improved compatibility for PC games running on Android.

The potential addition of DirectX12 support to Qualcomm’s Android GPU drivers would be a change because the API is used by many PC games. In the reported test, the games ran in DirectX12 mode through a translation layer rather than native support. Android Authority attributed the claim to Geekerwan.
