Qualcomm Unveils New Snapdragon Mobile, PC and Audio Platforms for Cross-Device AI
Qualcomm unveiled new Snapdragon mobile, PC and audio platforms at its 2026 Snapdragon Summit, with Microsoft and Google devices among products built on its chips. The company is pitching Snapdragon as the common silicon for cross-device personal AI.
On the smartphone side, Qualcomm introduced a sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite and a sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Super. The standard chip targets a broad set of flagship devices, while the Super version represents Qualcomm's highest specifications for performance, AI, gaming and imaging. The two use different packaging, and the Super version emphasizes sustained performance under heavy load.
Both chips are based on TSMC's 2nm (N2P) process, making them Qualcomm's first 2nm smartphone chips, according to ifanr. The Super version's Oryon CPU has a prime core clocked up to 5GHz and performance cores up to 4GHz. Qualcomm said it is the first mobile CPU to reach a maximum clock of 5GHz.
Qualcomm also highlighted its FlexCache architecture. FlexCache lets different cores share a dynamically allocated cache pool. A prime core handling a heavy task can draw on nearly the entire pool, and when work moves to other cores, related data can remain in cache, reducing repeated access to system memory. The company said this matters for agents that hand off steps such as reading a calendar, checking routes, comparing times and calling services.
On graphics, new Adreno Matrix Cores add dedicated AI compute cores to the graphics pipeline, working with Adreno Neural Fusion for upscaling and frame generation. An 18MB HPM on-chip memory stores intermediate data to reduce trips to system memory. The technology already supports Unity and Unreal engines, and Qualcomm plans cooperation with 18 mobile games. Video capture rises to 8K 60fps and 4K 240fps slow motion, with deeper ISP and NPU collaboration.
The Hexagon NPU increases shared memory by 50%, adds a Transformer-oriented Element Accelerator and supports MoE models above 30 billion parameters. For thermals, Offset PoP moves packaged memory to one side to leave a dedicated cooling path for the processor area.
For PCs, Microsoft brought a 12-inch Surface Pro and a 13-inch Surface Laptop using the 3nm Snapdragon X2 Plus. The devices come in platinum, violet and black, have higher screen brightness, and some commercial Surface Pro versions offer 5G. Surface Pro adds Ink Canvas for AI-assisted stylus creation, while a new Surface mouse supports haptic feedback and customizable buttons. The products are scheduled to go on sale from October 13.
Google introduced a new PC category called Googlebook. It uses the 4nm Snapdragon X Elite, brings the Android ecosystem to laptops and is optimized for Gemini Intelligence. Qualcomm disclosed more than 19 hours of battery life and highlighted native applications and cross-device workflows with Android phones. Qualcomm also announced support for the open-source Linux ecosystem.
Qualcomm said it aims for the 3nm Snapdragon X2 Elite to be a key platform defining agentic AI PCs. The Snapdragon X2 series offers up to 85 TOPS of NPU compute, on-device token generation up to twice the previous generation, context support expanded to 200,000 tokens, and plans to demonstrate local models above 30 billion parameters. More than 450 models are supported on Snapdragon PCs, and applications including Claude, Codex, OpenClaw and Perplexity can run on the platform.
For audio, the second-generation Snapdragon audio platform Premium replaces the earlier S7 and S7 Pro. Compared with the previous generation, AI performance is up to twice as high, power consumption is up to 40% lower and board area is reduced by 30%. A multi-core architecture runs music, noise cancellation, calls and AI tasks in parallel, with integrated ultra-low-power Wi-Fi, XPAN and Bluetooth extensions for wider connectivity and access to cloud intelligence and services.
Qualcomm described an adaptive ANC scenario: a user listening to music on the street would normally have noise cancellation block surroundings, but after recognizing an approaching siren, the system adjusts transparency to let the important sound in. The new adaptive ANC also adjusts according to fit, motion and noise changes.
Qualcomm introduced a Snapdragon Sound applications and agents ecosystem intended to bring services to ear-worn devices. MicroEJ provides an application framework so products can gain functions after launch, while partners including Cinemo, Roon and Qobuz participate in content access. Price comparison, rescheduling appointments and arranging travel are among experiences Qualcomm hopes to enable by voice, replacing steps that would otherwise require unlocking a screen and finding an app.
Qualcomm's broader pitch is that models may come from different vendors, systems may have different characters and devices may carry different brands, but it wants Snapdragon behind them. From phones to PCs, earbuds, glasses and watches, the company is placing chips across each category as competition continues over the entry point for personal AI.
