RadarScope weather app adds CarPlay support with radar overlays and nearest-radar switching

RadarScope, an iPhone weather app with high-resolution data from more than 300 radars, has added CarPlay support. The car version overlays radar data on navigation routes and can switch to the nearest single-site radar while driving.

RadarScope is an AMS-award-winning weather visualization tool, according to its App Store description. It is designed for meteorologists, public safety officials, storm spotters and weather enthusiasts, and lets users view a full suite of single-site radar data and related severe-weather products. The initial purchase provides professional radar visualization in a fully native app, the description says, without distracting and invasive practices. Optional subscription packages add more capabilities.

According to 9to5Mac, the CarPlay version is not a basic port of the iPhone app. In a post on X cited by the publication, weather enthusiast Jackson described several features. Users can select MRMS, single-site radar, satellite imagery, and overlay their route on the data. Jackson said warnings, ProbSevere, reports and other information also appear on the map. He called the combination particularly useful for storm chasers.

One feature Jackson highlighted is automatic radar switching. If a driver uses a single-site radar view, the app will automatically switch to the radar closest to the vehicle as it moves. 9to5Mac said Jackson also shared several pictures of RadarScope running on CarPlay.

RadarScope can be downloaded from the App Store. The app's addition to CarPlay expands the range of third-party iPhone apps available on Apple's in-car platform. 9to5Mac noted that it maintains a roundup of CarPlay apps that is updated regularly.
