The guide, written by maker Brian Corteil, defines a cyberdeck as a bespoke device built to meet needs that conventional phones, tablets, and computers cannot. This particular build is based on a Raspberry Pi 5 and a Bluetooth keyboard, with a display and built-in power supply, all housed in a hard, weatherproof case that offers both portability and protection from the elements.

According to TechRadar, the total cost of the suggested components comes to $250.09, approximately £184 or AU$348. The instructions require some 3D printing, laser cutting, or otherwise fabricating internal supports to fit the case. Corteil notes that past cyberdeck builds have used old pocket computers, briefcases, mint tins, wooden boxes, and prop replicas.

The tutorial is laid out in a step-by-step format, though TechRadar cautions that complete beginners to Raspberry Pi systems may prefer starting with a simpler project. The guide is also featured in issue 168 of the Raspberry Pi Official Magazine, a cyberdeck special that is available to read online for free.
