Reddit to Limit Old Reddit Access and End RSS Feeds

Reddit will restrict Old Reddit to users active in the past six months and end RSS feeds on Nov. 13, 2026, citing scraping.

The Old Reddit restriction follows earlier limits. Reddit redesigned its interface in 2018, prompting objections from users who preferred the original version. The company said it would keep Old Reddit available as long as people kept using it. In August this year, Reddit required Old Reddit users to be logged in. The new policy will deny access to new users and, over the next few months, further limit access for logged-in users to those who have used Old Reddit in the last six months. Reddit said this covers the vast majority of all Old Reddit users.

Reddit said both moves were meant to reduce AI scraping by companies, though 9to5Mac noted this is apparently acceptable if companies pay for the privilege. The same rationale applies to RSS. Reddit said, “Because RSS is now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse, we’ll stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026.”

The end of RSS could be particularly problematic for subreddits that rely on feeds for moderation workflows. Reddit said it is aware of this and recommends that moderators use Devvit apps such as Discord Relay.

Long-time users responding in the announcement thread were unhappy, according to 9to5Mac. One comment said, “They said Old Reddit wasn’t going away, but Reddit lies all the time […] They’ll keep messing with stuff until they turn the site into a Twitter/Facebook hybrid and everyone except the Facebook/Twitter crowd abandons them.” 9to5Mac said the comments made clear that many long-time users were very unhappy with the latest developments.
