Report: Apple's Next MacBook Pro to Be 'Significantly Lighter' Alongside OLED Touchscreen
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple's upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro will be 'significantly lighter' because of a redesigned interior, with a debut expected as soon as next month.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the weight reduction comes from Apple reworking the laptop's internals, miniaturizing parts and rearranging components inside the chassis. That work could make the new machine "significantly lighter," Gurman reported, though his account did not detail the new internal layout.
Gurman has previously reported that the touchscreen MacBook Pro will run on the existing higher-end M5 chips rather than the M7 chips expected to make their debut in early 2027. He repeated that the OLED touchscreen model is due next month and that it should launch alongside the first iPad mini to carry an OLED display.
For comparison, Apple's current MacBook Pro starts at 3.4 pounds for the 14-inch model, while the 16-inch version can weigh up to 4.7 pounds.
The machine would be one of the first major hardware releases under John Ternus, who recently took over as Apple's chief executive. Gurman wrote that Ternus, whose background is in hardware engineering, could bring a stronger focus on product design than his predecessor, who was known for supply chain and logistics expertise. Gurman added that one of Ternus's first priorities as chief executive was rebuilding the company's design teams, which now report directly to him.
