Report: Enterprise AI Moves From Prediction to Autonomous Decision-Making

MIT Technology Review reports enterprise AI is shifting from prediction to autonomous decision-making.

“Enterprises are done with a backward-looking point of view; they want to be more forward-thinking,” Vishal Gupta, a partner at research firm Everest Group, says in the report.

Intelligent analytics powered by technologies such as deep learning and generative AI are making this possible, the report says. Real-time training allows AI to evolve continuously instead of waiting for quarterly refreshes. Newer predictive engines also rely on a broader set of data, including numerical records and messy, unstructured sources of insight-rich interactions.

The report says AI-powered analytics are moving enterprises from passive hindsight to pragmatic foresight. It describes predictive analytics as a broad discipline that includes predictive modeling, data preparation, analysis workflows, interpretation of results and decision-making applications. AI is taking that discipline to new heights, the report says. The report frames the shift as bringing predictive analytics into the agentic AI era.

“In many ways I think the word ‘analytics’ is giving way to AI,” Gupta says. “Everything is becoming AI.”
