ETNews reporter Kim Yeong-ho wrote that Apple “is still expected to move forward with a four-sided bending display” that is “designed to create a near-borderless, full-screen appearance by curving the display around all four edges of the smartphone.” That would make the edge-to-edge screen a defining characteristic of the anniversary models, the report says. The claim contrasts with skepticism from Wall Street firm Jefferies last month over whether Apple would proceed with the design.

The same report says two display technologies previously considered for the new iPhone Pro models will not be implemented after all. Apple is expected to postpone adoption of Color Filter on Encapsulation, or COE, and Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide Plus, or LTPO+, for the 20th-anniversary iPhone next year. The technologies could have enabled a thinner panel and greater power efficiency, respectively, according to the report.

Industry sources reportedly attribute Apple’s decision to two main factors. Higher memory pricing makes it harder for Apple to absorb additional display costs, and the company is seeking solutions that are better than current COE and LTPO+ options.

The report characterizes the two postponed display upgrades as not especially substantial. For users, the more significant element is that the new “near-borderless” design remains intact in the plans for next year’s Pro models.

The report arrives as Apple’s current iPhone cycle continues. The iPhone 18 Pro arrived last week, and the iPhone Duo will follow next month, according to 9to5Mac. Apple’s long lead times on iPhone development mean rumors about future models often surface well ahead of launch. The ETNews report does not provide a launch date for the 20th-anniversary iPhone Pro models.
