Reports: Next MacBook Neo to get A19 Pro chip, 12GB RAM, 2027 release window

The A19 Pro chip is the same processor slated for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air. Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on the next-generation MacBook Neo with this chip. In performance tests, the A19 Pro is about 10-15% faster than the A18 Pro in single-core and multi-core CPU tasks, with GPU performance up to 40% better because every GPU core includes Neural Accelerators. However, according to reporter Tim Culpan, Apple will likely use a "binned" version of the A19 Pro in the MacBook Neo, with a 5-core GPU instead of the 6-core GPU in the iPhone 17 Pro.

One of the current model's compromises is its 8GB of RAM. The next MacBook Neo is expected to offer 12GB of RAM, enabled by the A19 Pro chip. 9to5Mac notes that while 8GB is not a huge limitation, the increase is a good improvement.

The combination of the A19 Pro and 12GB of RAM should also unlock support for Apple's more powerful on-device AI model introduced at WWDC. This model supports more accurate dictation and new Siri voice customization options. The current MacBook Neo does not support this feature due to its A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM.

The MacBook Neo currently comes in citrus, blush, indigo, and silver. Bloomberg reports that Apple plans to "periodically" update the device with new colors, though no specifics are available for the next model.
