Retroid Pocket Adds Duo Lite Plus, Offers Free Exchanges to Duo Lite Buyers
Retroid Pocket has abruptly introduced the Duo Lite Plus, a mid-tier Nintendo DS-style handheld, and will let existing Duo Lite buyers exchange their orders for free after the surprise launch.
The Duo Lite Plus is priced at $219 for preorders, with a $20 early bird discount code bringing the price to $199. Retroid Pocket expects shipments to start in mid-November. The model occupies the middle of the lineup: it is a variant of the company's Nintendo DS remake that is smaller than the Duo but more capable than the Duo Lite.
Retroid Pocket attributed the later addition to customer feedback. But many customers who already ordered the Duo Lite without knowing that a more suitable model existed are upset, according to Engadget. The frustration stems from the timing: the Duo and Duo Lite were already available for order when the Duo Lite Plus was announced.
In an email to customers, Retroid Pocket said it would pause Duo Lite shipments for a few days and give buyers the chance to compare devices. 'following the announcement of the new Duo Lite+, we want to make sure our existing Duo Lite customers have the opportunity to choose what works best for them,' the company wrote. Customers who have already committed to the Duo Lite can keep their original order or exchange it for a Duo Lite Plus, with shipping costs and exchanges completely covered by Retroid Pocket.
