Rhinoshield's iPhone 18 Pro Bumper Case Draws Praise for Camera Protection, Criticism for Fit

A 9to5Mac review finds Rhinoshield's $30 Minimalist Impact Bumper for the iPhone 18 Pro delivers near-caseless handling and camera protection, but loose fit, mushy buttons and dust pickup are drawbacks.

Apple re-entered the bumper business with the iPhone Air last year, and the reviewer had hoped the company would extend the accessory to the iPhone 18 Pro, as it did with the clear case for the iPhone 11. It did not, which sent the reviewer looking for an alternative and eventually to Rhinoshield's offering.

The case follows the familiar bumper formula: a small lip around the screen and a slightly larger one on the back. Its distinguishing feature is a set of supports that hold the camera plateau and lenses off whatever surface the phone is resting on, which the reviewer singled out as useful given the aluminum bodies of the iPhone 17 Pro and 18 Pro. That design makes the case considerably more protective than a typical bumper and stops the phone from wobbling on flat surfaces.

The fit fell short of expectations. The 9to5Mac reviewer described the case as somewhat loose, with edges that bend outward easily and a risk of stretching over time. The phone did not come out of the case when dropped, a scenario the reviewer said was tested unintentionally. The case is made from a single hard plastic material rather than rubber and, according to Rhinoshield, is 100 percent recyclable.

It comes in white, blue and black, colors matched to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, so buyers looking for burgundy are out of luck. The blue reviewed sits close to Glacier but is not an exact match.

Several drawbacks stood out. The buttons sit nearly flush and feel mushy, making them hard to press. The reviewer found the plastic feels cheaper than the material on Apple's iPhone Air bumper, though still preferable to the TPU or rubber used in typical clear cases. The material and loose design also tend to collect pocket dust. Buyers who use Apple's Wrist Strap or Crossbody Strap should note the case lacks the loop connection points those accessories require.

Despite the criticisms, the reviewer chose to keep the case, citing one main reason: it allows a near-caseless experience without the worry of chipping or denting the phone's aluminum frame. The bumper is generally sold only through Rhinoshield's own website, where it costs about $30, a figure the reviewer compared to Apple's $39 bumper once shipping is added. Listings occasionally appear on Amazon.
