Robotics and Unmanned Delivery: Leiphone Reports Reveal Paths to Commercialization

Two Leiphone reports show embodied robots and unmanned delivery vehicles are pushing toward real-world commercialization, with Lingdong General targeting logistics and no-map technology reshaping the industry.

One report focuses on Lingdong General, an embodied robotics company incubated under iFlytek. At the recent World Robot Conference in Beijing, the company demonstrated two robots sorting parcels. The robots moved slowly due to heavy foot traffic but maintained high accuracy and resistance to interference. Lingdong General CEO Ji Chao told Leiphone that a slow, steady demonstration reflects genuine deployment efforts, unlike flashy backflips or boxing routines. He said the company's industrial robot, the LDB, is approaching 80-90% of human worker efficiency in sorting tasks.

The same report describes how early field tests failed. In laboratory conditions, the model handled conveyor speeds of 0.5-0.7 meters per second, but actual factory conveyors run at 1.5 m/s, causing inference lag. Suction-and-gripper combinations also damaged soft packages. The team spent six months working inside the production site, rebuilding the model architecture, data infrastructure, and end-effector design. Lingdong General later developed a unified multimodal embodied large model with iFlytek Research Institute, and the LDB01 robot obtained the first industrial-grade CR certification in China and EU CE-MD certification for industrial machinery safety.

The report says the business case for the LDB relies on two stages of value. First, the total cost of a logistics sorting worker over two years is roughly equal to the price of one LDB robot, which can operate stably for two years with an average uptime of more than 7,000 hours without failure. The robot supports over-the-air upgrades, making it more efficient over time. Second, the robot allows customers to redesign production lines around embodied intelligence, generating savings beyond a single workstation. Lingdong General is now working on standardization, using field deployment engineers to help customers freeze requirements and replicate successful installations. The company expects to deliver about 200 units in 2026.

The second Leiphone report covers the "second half" of the unmanned delivery industry, where three factions are competing: original unmanned vehicle makers such as Xinshiqi and Jiuzhi Intelligent, traditional carmakers including Changan, Dongfeng, Geely Farizon, and intelligent driving suppliers such as Youjia Innovation, Momenta, Desay SV, Zhuoyu, and Qingzhou. According to the report, intelligent driving suppliers are bringing proven autonomous-driving algorithms and real-world data loops into logistics, and Youjia Innovation has been the most aggressive entrant. Its Xiaozhu unmanned vehicle brand launched the first "true no-map" L4 vehicle, the Xiaozhu T5 Pro, in April 2026, and has begun multi-city deliveries.

No-map technology is described as the key to solving bottlenecks of slow deployment, high costs, and difficult operations. It eliminates reliance on high-definition maps and allows vehicles to adapt to new environments with hour-level deployment. Competitors are also moving: Jiuzhi Intelligent disclosed a new-generation L4 no-map upgrade in July 2026, and Momenta launched a Robovan service in Suzhou Xiangcheng. The report says no-map solutions enable a shift from hardware sales to a Robot-as-a-Service model, attracting small and medium-sized merchants beyond major logistics clients. Citing iResearch data, the report says China's unmanned delivery market is expected to exceed 30 billion yuan in 2026 and reach 80 billion yuan by 2030.

The Xiaozhu T5 Pro has been deployed in cities including Nantong, Danyang, Zibo, Jiyuan, Luoyang, Taiyuan, Zhangjiakou, Foshan, and Kunming, covering express delivery, pharmaceutical delivery, and cold-chain fresh food. Industry observers have started using the nickname "Xin Jiu Zhu" to refer to the leading trio of Xinshiqi, Jiuzhi, and Xiaozhu in the unmanned delivery segment.
