Rockstar Releases GTA VI Launch Trailer a Month Before November 19 Debut

Rockstar Games has released a 90-second launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, giving another look at Vice City and the story of Jason and Lucia ahead of the game's November 19 release on PS5 and Xbox.

Rockstar said the trailer was captured entirely on a PS5. It offers another look at the Miami-inflected setting of Vice City and includes a new track, "Flower in a Hurricane," from the electronic duo Justice, who are composing the game's original score. According to TechRadar, the accompanying album, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, also features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Music has been a central element of the series, and Rockstar has kept that focus for this entry.

Alongside the trailer, Rockstar published a brief synopsis of the story: "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

TechRadar reported that the trailer opens with narration from Jason before he takes a call from Lucia, who is in prison, suggesting the prologue will be told from his perspective. A montage follows showing missions involving both characters, the pair dancing in a club and fighting off enemies and police, and one character jumping from a building into a swimming pool. TechRadar described the footage as cinematic and said it showed gameplay systems in action.

The two outlets that viewed the trailer described it differently. The Verge wrote that the clip "doesn't reveal much new" beyond establishing the game's vibe, while TechRadar characterized it as a deeper look at the story and at new systems. Rockstar released a longer "extended look" in August that showed how cinematic the game is shaping up to be, and leaks from the game have continued to circulate online, revealing some of its more sensitive elements, The Verge reported.

Grand Theft Auto VI arrives 13 years after Grand Theft Auto V. The Verge noted that November's release calendar is dominated by two large titles: GTA VI and Nintendo's remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The outlet also pointed to several shorter recent releases that players could finish before then, among them Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, the dressmaking game Dressmaker, the survival horror title Heartworm, Silver Pines, Orbitals, Toem 2 and a Toy Story retro collection from Digital Eclipse.
