RTX 5090 prices top $9,000 in the US as rumor points to a 2027 RTX 6000 launch

TechRadar reports Nvidia's RTX 5090 now sells for more than $9,000 in the US, with some listings near $12,000, while a new rumor says next-generation RTX 6000 gaming GPUs could arrive in 2027.

TechRadar cited a Reddit user who flagged the state of RTX 5090 pricing. The Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 is listed at $9,659 on Newegg US, sold through a third-party marketplace seller rather than by the retailer itself. A gold-plated Dhahab Edition of the same card carries a price of $11,999. The cheapest RTX 5090 TechRadar could find at the time of writing was an MSI Ventus model at $6,549, also listed on Newegg.

None of the large US retailers had stock of the card, according to the report, leaving third-party marketplace sellers as the only source. Many of those cards ship from Asia, including the ROG Astral listing that comes from Hong Kong.

Prices outside the United States are elevated as well. TechRadar said the cheapest RTX 5090 it found at Overclockers UK was around £4,500, rising to £6,600 for the Asus ROG Astral model.

The launch rumor comes from Moore's Law is Dead, a YouTube channel, and was reported by TweakTown. A source at Nvidia told the channel that earlier expectations of a 2028 debut for the next-generation GeForce cards are incorrect, and that the company is targeting a 2027 launch, with plans to begin the RTX 6000 rollout for PC gamers in the first half of next year, within nine months.

The rumor addresses a gap: little material about the RTX 6000 generation has leaked so far. The same source told Moore's Law is Dead that Nvidia management had successfully clamped down on leaks about next-generation products. The first product is expected to be the RTX 6090, and possibly an RTX 6080, with what the report describes as an unusual design element that was not specified. TechRadar suggested the cards could carry beefed-up hardware to handle DLSS 5 and neural rendering.

TechRadar also pointed to forecasts from analysts and industry insiders that the memory crisis will worsen next year, making video RAM more expensive and raising questions about how much memory an RTX 6090 would carry and what its recommended price would be. The outlet said it found it difficult to believe Nvidia would launch the RTX 6000 series next year, while noting the company may judge that 2028 will not bring relief on memory prices either. AI demand for the GPU could affect availability as well, TechRadar wrote. A Reddit user, quoted by the outlet, put it this way: "Can't wait to decide if I want a down payment on a house or an Nvidia GPU."
