RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro hands-on: A rugged phone with a detachable GoPro-like camera
At IFA 2026, RugOne unveiled the Xsnap 7 Pro, a rugged Android phone with a detachable action camera. The camera can be operated wirelessly up to 50 meters away, and the phone launches on Kickstarter September 7.
The detachable camera attaches magnetically to the back of the phone and has an additional physical safety lock. The report says this helps avoid accidental drops but also makes removal fiddly; the author found gaining enough leverage to release the camera almost impossible with long fingernails. Once removed, the camera records up to 2.8K at 30fps or 1440p at 50fps, supports vertical and horizontal video, has 64GB of internal storage, and can record for up to 40 minutes per charge. It is waterproof to a depth of 5 meters and can be operated up to 50 meters from the phone via Wi-Fi 6. When docked, the camera charges inside the phone and can be fully recharged in around 35 minutes.
RugOne also built a dedicated XSnap Pro app that shows a live view from the detached camera and gives access to the recorded footage on the phone. This enables, for example, one person to carry the camera while another holds the phone and monitors the feed from nearly 50 meters away. Recording can be started either from a button on the camera or from the phone. The publication notes that the footage is accessible on the phone, so the detachable camera does not have to be treated as a separate device.
The Xsnap 7 Pro itself is a rugged handset aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. It runs on MediaTek's Dimensity 8400 chipset, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage with expandable option, plus eSIM support. It has a 6.67-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP primary rear camera with OIS, and a 64MP infrared night-vision camera with IR LEDs. The phone carries an IP69K dust and water resistance rating.
Android Authority said that based on its brief hands-on experience, the detachable design is not necessarily a replacement for a dedicated action camera, but it sees the appeal of separating the camera from the phone, watching its live feed remotely, triggering it from either device and automatically depositing footage on the phone.
The RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro is scheduled to debut at IFA this weekend before heading to Kickstarter on September 7, where early backers will get a discounted price. It is expected to launch globally next month for €1,099 (~$1,276).
