Ruijin Hospital and Huawei Cloud Launch RuiPath 2.0 Pathology Large Model

Chinese Academy of Engineering academician and President of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Ning Guang, pointed out that the scarcity and uneven distribution of high-quality medical resources remain a real challenge. He said that building a pathology large model is not about erecting a technological “high wall” in top-tier hospitals, but about building a “highway” to grassroots medical institutions. Through cloud-edge collaboration, the model aims to turn Ruijin Hospital’s accumulated diagnostic expertise into standardized tools that grassroots hospitals can use, understand, and adopt, truly realizing the benefits of AI for all.

Zhou Yuefeng, Board Director of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Cloud, stated that in response to the difficulties of early cancer diagnosis caused by uneven medical resources between urban and rural areas, Huawei Cloud has been committed to using AI to solve medical industry challenges. By using pathology AI to strengthen grassroots healthcare, cancer patients can receive early and accurate diagnosis closer to home, seizing the golden window for early treatment. This fulfills Huawei Cloud’s social responsibility of advancing inclusive smart healthcare and protecting public health.

In February 2025, Ruijin Hospital and Huawei jointly released RuiPath, which became China’s first clinical-grade pathology large model to enter hospital production workflows. The newly released RuiPath 2.0, with a 7-billion-parameter scale, addresses clinical needs through the five major upgrades. According to Leiphone.com, relying on the medical AI enablement platform of Huawei Cloud’s smart healthcare zone, hospitals can conduct reinforcement learning based on RuiPath and their own data, and train a dedicated model with less than 10 percent of the data used in traditional training. So far, more than 90 hospitals nationwide, including Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, Pu'er People's Hospital, Ruian People's Hospital, and Shijiazhuang People's Hospital, have applied RuiPath and joined Huawei Cloud's AI DreamWorks smart healthcare zone, marking a new phase of accelerated large-scale application of medical AI.

Looking ahead, Huawei Cloud and Ruijin Hospital will deepen joint innovation, extending the pathology AI capabilities developed by top-tier hospitals to county-level medical institutions through the cloud, so that AI can truly benefit every hospital, every doctor, and every patient.
