Safari in macOS 27 adds automatic tab organization powered by Apple Intelligence

macOS 27's Safari can now auto-organize tabs using Apple Intelligence, plus new Notify Me and AI extensions.

The feature is not enabled by default. After updating to macOS 27, users can activate it by opening Safari settings, selecting the Tabs section, and choosing "Automatically Create Topics" under Organize Tabs. Once the settings window is closed, the feature is active.

Safari will then sort open tabs into suggested groups, such as grouping several pages about a video game into a "Video Games" group or articles about a musician into another. The processing happens entirely on-device, so Apple does not track browsing history.

Users who prefer more control can select "Show Related Tabs" instead. In that mode, Safari offers tab group suggestions but does not group tabs automatically.

macOS 27 also brings other Safari improvements, including Notify Me, which alerts users when a webpage changes, such as a product coming back in stock or a price drop, and AI-powered custom extensions that can be created by describing a need, like removing privacy pop-ups.

The update is currently in beta and expected to be released this fall. Users who want to try it early can join the Apple Beta Program, but Engadget recommends backing up data first because beta software can fail.
