Samsung cuts Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra prices for October Prime Day

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 drops to $1,549.99 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra to $1,699.99 during October Prime Day, the lowest prices either foldable has reached, as Apple's iPhone Duo nears launch.

The same configuration costs $1,649.99 at Best Buy, $100 more than Amazon's price but still $250 below list. Both figures beat the previous best sale price on the Z Fold 8 by $100, The Verge reported.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which carries better cameras, now starts at $1,699.99, down from $2,099.99. That is $150 below its previous best price before Prime Day. Best Buy lists the Ultra at $1,849.99, $150 above Amazon's price and $250 below list.

The Z Fold 8 is not the first passport-style foldable, but The Verge's reviewer Dominic Preston called it the most polished so far, writing that its small size was unexpectedly comfortable and that its 4:3 aspect-ratio inner screen works well for reading and watching content. In the US, The Verge described it as the closest Android equivalent to the iPhone Duo.

The Z Fold 8 Ultra is an iterative upgrade over the Z Fold 7, with improvements to its displays, cameras and chipset, plus an almost-invisible crease. The Verge described the Ultra as the specs powerhouse of the two foldables, though less of a design departure than the standard Z Fold 8.

Samsung has not commented on how long the Prime Day pricing will last. The reductions apply to the 256GB Z Fold 8 and to the entry configuration of the Ultra, with Amazon pricing lower than Best Buy on both models.
