Samsung Expands One UI 9 Rollout as Users Advised to Prepare Galaxy Devices
Samsung's One UI 9, based on Android 17, is rolling out to more Galaxy phones and beta testers. Engadget reports users should check eligibility, free storage, charge, and back up before updating.
Before installing the update, Galaxy owners should confirm their device is eligible. Engadget reports that S23 series phones and Z Flip or Z Fold models no older than the fifth-generation versions can receive the full One UI 9 update. The stable release has only just started rolling out on the S26 series and may take time to reach the wider ecosystem.
Users can check availability by going to Settings, then Software Update, then Check for updates if the device has not already shown an available update. They can also go from Software Update to Download and install to schedule the download for later, such as when the device is charging.
Engadget advises several precautions before updating. The update takes about 4GB of space, so users should free that amount with extra room. They should also ensure the battery is charged, and if scheduling the update, make sure the phone has enough charge and a Wi-Fi connection during the update time. Important files should be backed up physically or in the cloud in case something goes wrong.
Samsung is also continuing beta tests for older devices. A second One UI 9 beta has launched for the Galaxy A55 and A35 phones, as well as the S24 series, according to Engadget. The update for the A-series pair is starting in South Korea, while the Beta 2 update for the S24 is starting in India. The A55 update is about 403.66MB, the A35 update requires about 500MB, and the S24 beta is 600.90MB.
The same precautions apply to these less-stable beta updates. Engadget notes that A55 and A35 users are only eligible if their devices are enrolled in Samsung's One UI 9 beta program.
