Samsung Galaxy Watch orange dot means unread notifications

The orange dot on Samsung Galaxy Watch faces means unread notifications; a red dot signals an urgent message.

The indicator has appeared across the Galaxy Watch line and is present on current models including the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, according to Engadget. The dot is one of several small symbols Samsung uses to show status information on the watch's limited screen space.

Users who do not want the dot can turn it off on the watch by going to Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings and disabling New notification indicator on watch face. The same option can be changed from a linked Samsung phone in the Wearable app under Watch Settings > Notifications > Advanced notification settings, where the New notification indicator on watch face setting can be switched off.

Other symbols appear elsewhere on the display. At the top, a phone icon with a slash means the watch has lost its Bluetooth connection with the phone; a rectangle with a cloud in the middle means the watch is connected to the phone through mobile data or Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth; and a padlock means the watch is locked and requires a password or PIN to open, Engadget reported.

At the bottom of the screen, a blue music note indicates whether an app is playing music or whether the music is paused, and tapping the icon controls the audio. A green phone icon appears in the same area when the watch or a connected phone is being used for a call.
