Samsung Gallery has a hidden 'Gallery Labs' menu: Here's how to unlock it

Samsung's Gallery app hides a secret 'Gallery Labs' menu full of experimental features. Enabling it lets users lock albums, convert images to PDFs, and more.

To enable Gallery Labs, open the Samsung Gallery app, tap the menu icon in the bottom-right corner, tap Settings, tap About Gallery, and then tap the version number 10 times in a row. Once you see the message '[Labs] Gallery Labs is enabled,' go back to the Gallery Settings menu and tap the new Gallery Labs entry. The menu lists experimental features divided by One UI version.

One handy feature is Album entry-locks, which lets users lock individual albums with their lock-screen PIN or fingerprint. This prevents new photos added to an album from being accessible without authentication. However, it only works inside the Gallery app; other apps like My Files can still see the files.

Another feature is Slideshow with selected items, which allows users to start a slideshow only with chosen photos instead of playing through an entire album. Users can also enable Save as PDF, adding a PDF option to the Create menu. The resulting PDF opens in Samsung Notes, where it can be annotated or reordered.

For video playback, the Legacy video seekbar option replaces the filmstrip view with a traditional seekbar and play/pause button. The Timeline in album feature groups photos by date within an album, similar to the main Pictures tab, making it easier to browse large albums.

Users can also turn off video previews to prevent the app from autoplaying clips as they scroll. This can save battery life and improve scrolling speed, especially on older devices.

Exploring Gallery Labs is similar to diving into Android's Developer Options. The experimental menu offers a variety of useful tweaks, and enabling it requires only a few taps.
