Samsung Group to Invest $1 Billion in Nvidia- and KKR-Backed Helix Digital Infrastructure
Samsung Group said Tuesday it will invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, the AI infrastructure company founded by KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and Vistra. Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million of the total.
Samsung Electronics will invest $500 million, while five other affiliates — Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance — will contribute a combined $500 million, the group said in a statement. Samsung described the transaction as a way to accelerate the global rollout of AI data centers alongside Helix and to deepen collaboration among the companies involved.
Helix was launched in June with more than $10 billion in committed long-term capital from KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia and U.S. power producer Vistra. KKR said the Samsung investment is in addition to those funds already committed. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, the former chief executive of Amazon Web Services. Nvidia is a strategic partner, and Vistra is Helix's preferred power partner, according to Yonhap News.
Helix targets the infrastructure required to support growing AI demand, including hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and fiber-optic networks. The company plans to address power availability, described as a key bottleneck in AI infrastructure development, through its own investments and its partnership with Vistra, Yonhap reported.
Samsung said it intends to seek synergies by connecting the technologies and business capabilities of its affiliates — spanning semiconductors, cooling systems, data center construction and batteries — with Helix's infrastructure business. The group said the investment would expand its role in the global buildout of AI infrastructure.
KKR has invested more than $75 billion globally across digital infrastructure and power, including about $9 billion in Korea since 2009, CNBC reported.
