Samsung Health Cuts Sleep Coaching Data Requirement to Three Days

Samsung Health now lets users start Sleep Coaching after three days of sleep data instead of a full week, and adds expanded Running Coach tiers and a Strava route import in an update rolling out this month.

Sleep Coaching has been available in Samsung Health for several years, but previously required a week of consecutive sleep data recorded within a single month. Under the new version, owners of a Galaxy Watch 4 series or later model, a Galaxy Fit 3 or a Galaxy Ring can start the program with three days of sleep data collected over the past two weeks.

Setting it up involves a survey covering sleep regularity and interruptions, alcohol and caffeine intake, and a self-rating of sleep satisfaction. Samsung Health combines those answers with the three days of data to assign a personalized Sleep Animal symbol and build a four- to eight-week coaching program around the user's goals.

The app adjusts its weekly recommendations as sleep patterns change and tracks daily sleep satisfaction. It also provides daily habit checklists and sleep tips based on behavioral sleep science, such as avoiding screens and caffeine before bed or stretching outdoors after waking up.

Analysis reports have been revised as well. A five-sided Sleep Balance graph plots sleep time, sleep regularity, nighttime wakefulness and sleep satisfaction alongside an Energy Score, highlighting areas that need attention. Daily morning insight messages review the previous night's sleep and offer tips.

Samsung is also updating Running Coach, which it describes as a more dynamic and connected training experience. The number of tiers rises from 10 to 12 to better support intermediate and advanced runners who want to set higher benchmarks.

Sharing tools for milestones, personal records and route highlights have been expanded, and Samsung has entered a partnership with the fitness platform Strava. According to the company, users can import Strava Routes for running, trail running and cycling directly into Samsung Health.

Samsung said the new features will begin rolling out this month.
