Samsung Investigating Icon Delay in Hidden Folders in Good Lock's DIY Home

The problem is limited to hidden folders. Folders in the normal state open with their icons visible as expected, but a hidden folder shows a short lag between the moment it is opened and the moment its app icons appear. A screen recording from one Galaxy user demonstrates that gap, while the same user's normal folder opens with no delay at all.

Users who reported the issue say it appeared after they updated their phones to One UI 9. Good Lock modules are not immune to bugs, and Home Up is the module misbehaving after a recent update, the report said. Samsung has not published a fix or given a timeline for one.

DIY Home sits inside Home Up and gives users control over the home screen layout. It allows app icons, widgets and folders to be freely arranged, rotated, resized and overlapped. Home screen customization is one of the reasons Galaxy owners stay with the brand, and the Good Lock suite is the main route Samsung offers for that personalization on Android. A defect in a Home Up feature therefore reaches users who have deliberately built their home screens around it.

For now the effect is confined to the way hidden folders render their contents. Nothing in the reports suggests that hidden folders lose their contents, that the folder setting itself breaks, or that ordinary folders are affected in any way. The visible symptom is the pause before icons load.

The report did not say how many users have hit the delay, which Galaxy models are involved, or whether the behavior appears on every device running One UI 9 with Home Up installed. Samsung's investigation is at the stage of confirming and diagnosing the problem, and no workaround has been confirmed by the company.

Users who rely on hidden folders can avoid the delay by leaving those folders unhidden until a fix ships, though that removes the concealment the feature exists to provide. Normal folders continue to work as intended.
