Samsung Launches First Clip-On Earbuds, Galaxy Buds On, in South Korea
Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on earbuds, in South Korea for 299,000 won, with a global rollout to follow.
According to Engadget, the clip-on style attaches to the side of the ear and leaves the ear canal open. That can appeal to users who dislike the feeling of an in-ear bud, but the design is also prone to sound leakage. Samsung is addressing that with a TwinBoost speaker system that it says increases bass, plus automatic volume adjustment that responds to the user's environment.
For comfort, Samsung said it gave the buds a wide contact area to spread pressure evenly across the band. The touch controls sit on the back of each bud, and a voice-isolating feature is intended to improve call clarity. Engadget, citing 9to5Google, reported that the Buds On case appears nearly identical externally to the case that ships with the Galaxy Buds 4.
Owners of compatible Galaxy devices will get added hands-free functions. Engadget reported these include head gestures for call control, Gemini Live support and a Quick Voice Memo feature activated by pressing and holding the touch area.
The Galaxy Buds On will launch in South Korea on October 27 in a single black color option. They are priced at 299,000 won, which Engadget said translates to $220. Samsung has said a global rollout will follow, but it has not announced specific regions, dates or prices for markets outside South Korea.
