Samsung Launches Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and SmartTag 3; Galaxy S27 Ultra Leak Points to Heavier Build
Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, Tab S12 Plus, SmartTag 3, while leaks spotlight the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Galaxy S26 Ultra discount.
TechRadar reported that the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is the top model, with a 14.6-inch 2960 x 1848 120Hz AMOLED display, a 5.1mm-thick body, a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, an 11,600mAh battery with 45W charging, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. It also has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, a 13MP wide camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP front-facing camera, quad speakers, and an included S Pen stylus. Samsung says it is the company’s slimmest and most powerful tablet yet, with up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance, and 17% improved GPU performance compared with the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra.
The Galaxy Tab S12 Plus is similar but has a smaller 12.6-inch 2800 x 1752 screen and a 5.3mm build that is slightly thicker but lighter than the Ultra. It uses a 10,600mAh battery, offers up to 512GB of storage, omits the 16GB RAM option, and has a single 13MP rear camera. It supports Wi-Fi 6E, while the Ultra supports Wi-Fi 7. Both tablets will be available starting Oct. 7 in gray or silver, priced from £1,199 / $1,200 for the Plus and £1,399 / $1,400 for the Ultra. Australian pricing and availability have not been confirmed. Samsung is including subscriptions such as six months of Google AI Pro and Notability and four months of Photoshop.
TechRadar reported that the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is Samsung’s first tracker with cross-OS compatibility, working with both Galaxy and iOS devices. It is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the Galaxy SmartTag 2, with up to 550 days of battery life in standard use or up to 790 days in Power Saving mode. It increases the range of Compass View for precision finding and adds a Place Notification feature that lets users define an area and receive an alert when a tagged item moves in or out of it. It will be available in white and black, going on sale in South Korea on Oct. 7 and globally sometime in 2027.
Separately, Android Authority reported that a leak from Ice Universe on X claims the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be 7.9mm thick, virtually unchanged from the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but will weigh 218 grams, 4 grams more than its predecessor. The added weight may be due to recent reports that Samsung is equipping the next Ultra flagship with a larger 5,700mAh battery pack. If the leak is accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could beat the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max in both weight and thickness. The Galaxy S27 series is not expected to arrive for several more months, and a separate leak has offered early insight into camera upgrades on the Ultra model.
Android Authority also reported that Amazon has cut the price of the 512GB Galaxy S26 Ultra to $1,163.50, a $336.49 saving from the $1,499.99 recommended retail price, or a 22% discount. The phone has a 6.9-inch high-resolution display, a titanium frame, and an integrated Privacy Display that helps limit side-angle viewing. It also has a 200MP main sensor, an ultrawide lens, dual telephoto lenses, Galaxy AI features, and a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support. It typically includes 12GB of RAM and has a 4.6-star rating.
