Samsung May Tune Galaxy S27 Ultra's 60W Charging to Charge Faster
Samsung is rumored to keep the Galaxy S27 Ultra's 60W charging rating but rework its charging curve, holding roughly 55W to 56W longer so the phone could charge 2% to 3% faster than the S26 Ultra despite a larger battery.
The leaker WalleGalaxy says the Galaxy S27 Ultra will carry the same 60W rating as its predecessor, but that Samsung is working on charging optimizations meant to hold higher power levels for longer during the early part of a charge. The phone could sustain roughly 55W to 56W for a longer period than the S26 Ultra, the leaker claims, which would make it charge about 2% to 3% faster than the S26 Ultra even with the bigger cell. That points to work on the charging curve rather than on a higher headline wattage.
Samsung says the S26 Ultra supports 60W Super Fast Charging 3.0 and can reach about 75% in 30 minutes. Apple closed part of that gap this year: the iPhone 18 Pro Max shipped with a 5,391mAh rated battery, above the S26 Ultra's 5,000mAh cell, and Apple also improved wired charging to match Samsung. The next Galaxy Ultra is already rumored to move to a 5,700mAh battery.
Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 50% in about 15 minutes with a compatible 60W charger. The report does not establish how much of that result comes from the phone's steel-case battery design, its charging curve, or other thermal and power-management choices, and whether Samsung's rumored approach would produce similar early-stage charging on a 5,700mAh battery will only be clear from real-world testing.
Two questions remain open. The report does not say whether the rest of the Galaxy S27 family would use the same charging method, and Samsung has not confirmed any of the details. The Galaxy S27 lineup is expected to be unveiled early next year, according to the report, so more information should surface before launch. The substance of the leak is not that 60W stays in place, but that Samsung may have found a way to make the same ceiling do more work.
Editor's Summary
Samsung is rumored to keep 60W charging on the Galaxy S27 Ultra while optimizing the charging curve so it holds roughly 55W to 56W longer, which could cut charge times by 2% to 3% compared with the S26 Ultra despite a larger battery. Samsung has not confirmed the details, and the Galaxy S27 lineup is expected early next year.
