Samsung raises Australian Galaxy S26 prices as Amazon discounts 256GB model by 32%
Samsung has increased Australian prices across its Galaxy S26 lineup by AU$100 to AU$250, but Amazon is selling the 256GB base model for AU$1,127, 32% below the revised RRP, according to TechRadar.
The increases cover the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The 256GB Galaxy S26 now costs AU$1,649, up from AU$1,549, and the 512GB version costs AU$1,949, up from AU$1,849. The 256GB Galaxy S26 Plus moved from AU$1,849 to AU$1,949, while the 512GB Plus moved from AU$2,149 to AU$2,249. The 256GB Ultra rose from AU$2,199 to AU$2,299, the 512GB Ultra from AU$2,499 to AU$2,599, and the 1TB Ultra from AU$2,949 to AU$3,199.
The base 256GB Galaxy S26 launched at AU$1,549, an increase from the predecessor's AU$1,399, and then rose by another AU$100 to AU$1,649 earlier this month, TechRadar reported. The Amazon price is therefore AU$522 below the current recommended price for that configuration.
TechRadar said the AU$1,127 deal makes the 256GB S26 cheaper than Samsung's new Galaxy S26 FE mid-ranger and Apple's budget iPhone 17e. The handset includes a triple-camera setup, 12GB of RAM and the full Galaxy AI suite. Amazon has Black, Cobalt Violet, Sky Blue and White colours at that price, and buyers can trade in an old phone for additional savings. TechRadar noted that it saw the model dip below AU$1,000 in August, but said the discount remains worth taking after the recent price increases.
In TechRadar's Galaxy S26 review, the phone was praised for its bright AMOLED display, reliable cameras and long battery life. Storage now starts at 256GB, up from 128GB on the predecessor, and the screen size increased from 6.2 inches to 6.3 inches while retaining the same dimensions. The Australian model uses Samsung's Exynos 2600 processor instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset found in the US version. Tom's Guide argued in its tests that the difference is marginal, so most users are unlikely to notice it in typical scenarios, according to TechRadar. The review also noted the relatively slow 25W charging speed and the lack of full Qi2 wireless charging support, and said the phone is only worth buying when it is on sale. With the Amazon discount, TechRadar said that condition has been met and still described the S26 as an easy recommendation and a solid entry-level flagship.
The price increases come as phone manufacturers face RAM and storage shortages. Apple recently raised prices across most of its products, and the new Google Pixel phones also received price hikes, TechRadar reported. Samsung's Australian price rises follow its March launch of the 2026 S-series flagships, which had already seen discounts during major sales events such as EOFY and Prime Day. Most Australian retailers have so far held off introducing most of Samsung's increases, and some deals remain available. Samsung's recently released 2026 foldables and the Galaxy S26 FE have not seen price hikes as of October 14, though most of those devices launched at higher prices than their predecessors.
