Samsung Rolls Out SmartThings Redesign on iOS First, Android and Galaxy Users Wait

Samsung has begun rolling out a major SmartThings redesign on iOS in version 1.7.51, adding a refreshed Home tab, faster hub controls and Routine Insights. Galaxy and other Android users are still waiting for the update.

Android Authority said the iOS build was available in Canada when checked, and it cited SamMobile as having pointed out the iOS release. Samsung's App Store release notes described three main changes: a redesigned Home tab for viewing frequently used features and essential information, faster control of devices connected to a hub when the phone and hub are on the same Wi-Fi network, and Routine Insights, which shows the top three most frequently used Routines and their recent activity.

The redesign had been seen in an early look in early August, Android Authority reported. Elements from that preview are present in the iOS release, including a lighter color scheme, pill-shaped controls in place of standalone borderless text, and a floating navigation bar. On iOS, the app also incorporates Apple's Liquid Glass design, according to screenshots cited by the publication.

Device and routine cards now appear as more compact pills by default. Users can resize the pills if they want larger tappable areas for triggering devices or routines. The cards also behave differently: tapping the device or routine icon triggers its primary action, while tapping elsewhere on the card opens full controls. Android Authority said the change should be easy for tech-savvy users to understand but may not be immediately obvious to everyone, since tapping different parts of the same card produces different results.

The redesigned home screen is also set to surface additional information, including cards for energy usage, quick remote access for TVs, family care alerts and suggested automations. The Home tab shows Favorites, which highlights pinned devices and routines.

Samsung has refreshed the built-in remote for compatible TVs and monitors as well, giving it a light-mode look and options to resize and reposition it around the screen.

Samsung has not shared a timeline for when the same redesign will reach Android. With the iOS update already out, Android Authority said it hoped Android would not be far behind. Samsung's broader One UI redesign has reached several of its native apps, while SmartThings had largely been left behind until this rollout.
