Samsung's First Android XR Smart Glasses Set for November Launch, Official Says
Samsung's first Android XR smart glasses will launch in November, an official said, with pricing and an exact date still unknown.
The November timing is the first specific launch window attached to the device. Samsung has not announced an exact date or a price, and neither detail appeared in the report.
The glasses are Samsung's first-generation model and will not place a display in front of the wearer's eyes, unlike XREAL's Aura. They rely on cameras, microphones and speakers to take in what the wearer sees and hears, with Google's Gemini handling assistant functions. Heavier AI processing runs on a connected Galaxy phone, which makes the glasses an extension of the smartphone rather than a standalone computer.
Samsung first previewed the product, which it calls Intelligent Eyewear, alongside Google at I/O in May, then showed it again at Galaxy Unpacked in July. The company is working with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on different frame designs. Recent filings with the US Federal Communications Commission listed model numbers SM-O200J and SM-O200P, each with several variants.
The device enters a category Meta currently dominates. Counterpoint Research says global AI glasses shipments rose 263% year over year in the first half of 2026, and that display-less models accounted for 96% of those shipments, with Meta holding 94% of that segment. Samsung is aiming for its glasses to weigh up to 5 grams less than Meta's camera-equipped models, which start at 51.5 grams, according to the report.
Privacy features are part of the pitch. Samsung says LEDs inside and outside the frame will indicate when recording is active, and the camera will shut off if the external indicator is covered. Camera-equipped glasses have drawn increasing scrutiny over covert recording.
The FCC appearance was the clearest signal until now that a launch was approaching. Pricing and the exact November date remain unannounced.
