Samsung's First Over-Ear Headphones in a Decade May Be Called Galaxy Studio
A new leak suggests Samsung's first over-ear headphones since 2015 will launch under the Galaxy Studio name, putting the company on a collision course with premium rivals like Apple's AirPods Max. Pricing, features and availability are still unknown.
The same source had previously leaked the Galaxy Buds On name early in that product's development cycle, which lends some credibility to the new claim. Details such as pricing, features and a release date have not been reported, and Samsung has not confirmed the name.
Samsung is not a newcomer to the category. The company released the Level Over and Level On headphones in 2015, and those remain its most recent over-ear models. The South Korean manufacturer has since concentrated on its Galaxy Buds line of true wireless earbuds, leaving the over-ear segment to competitors.
Interest in a return surfaced in August, when code strings, an internal codename and in-app graphics pointed to renewed work on over-ear headphones. At the time, observers reasonably assumed Samsung would revive the Level branding it used in 2015. The latest leak indicates the company intends to fold the product into its Galaxy lineup instead.
Placing the headphones under the Galaxy name would align them with Samsung's flagship phones, tablets and earbuds, and would signal that the company views the device as a premium product. That would put it in direct competition with established high-end models such as Apple's AirPods Max. Nothing entered the over-ear market only last year, making it a more recent arrival than Samsung, despite Samsung's long absence from the segment.
The report does not specify a launch window, hardware specifications, codec support, or whether the headphones would carry Samsung's own audio branding. No regulatory filings or official teasers have appeared alongside the naming claim.
Samsung has shipped over-ear headphones before, but never under the Galaxy brand, which it has reserved for its core mobile devices and wearables. Whether Galaxy Studio becomes the final retail name or remains an internal designation is not yet clear.
