Samsung's First Over-Ear Headphones in a Decade Tipped to Be Called Galaxy Studio
A leak and a re-filed trademark suggest Samsung's first over-ear headphones in a decade may be called Galaxy Studio.
The Galaxy Studio name has some paper trail behind it. Samsung trademarked the term about a decade ago and re-filed the trademark in mid-September, according to TechRadar, which reported that the re-filing has made the rumored product look increasingly likely. Reports that Samsung was working on over-ear headphones had circulated before, but the appearance of a specific name is what has drawn fresh attention to the rumors.
The word "Studio" could imply a professional orientation, such as music mixing or critical listening, though TechRadar noted that Samsung generally stays in the consumer product space to support its wider ecosystem, and that the name may simply be intended to sound premium. TechRadar also pointed to Samsung's recent push into new audio form factors, including the Galaxy Buds On, as another reason the new headphones appear more plausible.
No price, feature set or release date has been indicated. Some fans are hoping for a 2027 launch, possibly alongside the Galaxy S27, the Galaxy Z Fold 9s or another product due that year, but TechRadar reported that it is impossible to say for sure.
Samsung has owned a roster of established audio brands for years. It acquired Harman International in November 2016, bringing Harman Kardon, JBL and AKG into the company, and a later acquisition of Masimo's audio brands in late 2025 added Bowers & Wilkins, Denon and Marantz. Despite that portfolio of engineering and research, Samsung has in recent years released only in-ear models, including the Galaxy Buds 4 and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. Its last over-ear headphones came in the era of products such as the Samsung Level On Pro, when active noise cancellation was still a novelty rather than a standard feature on new wireless over-ears.
TechRadar reported that some of the Harman International brands have languished: JBL and Bowers & Wilkins still release over-ear headphones regularly, but Harman Kardon now appears to exist mainly as a brand that tunes other companies' headphones, and AKG has not had a major release in some time. Hi-fi listeners have long called for a proper AKG revival, TechRadar noted, and the Galaxy Studio would not fill that role, since it would not be designed and tuned for audiophiles in the way an AKG model might be.
