Samsung's Redesigned SmartThings App Reaches Android After iOS Rollout

Samsung has begun rolling out a redesigned SmartThings app to Android devices, adding compact device and routine cards, resizing and rearranging options, a Favorites section and an updated TV remote.

The new build appears to be version 1.8.51.30 and looks nearly identical to the iOS version, Android Authority reported. The navigation bar now has a floating appearance, and the interface adopts a more compact layout for device and routine cards.

Devices and routines are displayed as smaller, denser cards on the Home and Devices screens. The update also adds support for resizing and rearranging those cards so users can adjust how their setup is arranged. Tapping the icon on a device or routine card turns the device on or off, or runs the routine.

The Home tab includes a dedicated section at the top that shows information such as weather updates and suggested routines. A Favorites section lists pinned devices and routines for quicker access.

The built-in TV remote has been refreshed as well, adding a light mode option along with the ability to resize and reposition the remote. Android Authority described the release order as surprising, given that the redesigned app reached iOS before it arrived on Samsung's own Android phones.
