Samsung's SmartThings update adds Now Brief-style cards, offline controls and Matter 1.6 support

Samsung has refreshed its SmartThings app with Now Brief-style cards, a new summarization feature called SmartThings Now, offline local controls and support for Matter 1.6, according to Android Authority.

The centerpiece of the update is a summarization feature Samsung calls SmartThings Now, which surfaces important information and places actionable items at the top of the Home tab. Samsung said the information shown there is personalized based on the user's location, usage patterns and other past activity in order to suggest actions.

The feature also prioritizes routines. According to the report, SmartThings Now may recommend that users reorganize the cards on the Home page when the seasons change, so that the most relevant controls stay in view.

Beyond the new summary, the update adds local controls designed to keep SmartThings working when the internet goes down. Samsung has also added support for Matter 1.6 to the platform.

The changes cover the SmartThings app on mobile as well as the interface on smart home appliances. The refreshed look follows a redesign of the SmartThings interface that Android Authority covered the previous week.
