Samsung's Switch 2-Ready P9 MicroSD Express Card Drops Below $50
Samsung's P9 MicroSD Express card is discounted at Amazon and B&H Photo, with the 256GB model at $47.99 and the 512GB at $99, as storage prices stay elevated amid a memory shortage.
Both prices are well below the cards' usual selling points. The 256GB model typically goes for about $80, while the 512GB version usually sells for between $150 and $200. Even at the discounted prices, both cards remain more expensive than they were at launch, a rise The Verge attributed in its report to the ongoing memory shortage.
The P9 is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s. Those peak speeds are only reachable on devices equipped with a microSD Express slot, a group that includes certain cameras, tablets and drones with a microSD UHS-I slot. For Switch 2 owners, capacity is the more immediate concern: first-party Nintendo games generally occupy between 10 and 30 gigabytes each, with the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake listed at 27GB, while third-party titles can run larger still — Cyberpunk 2077 takes up 60GB.
Until recently the Switch 2 was among the few devices able to make use of the faster MicroSD Express standard. This year Asus added support for MicroSD Express to its ROG Ally X20 handheld, which runs Windows 11.
The discounts arrive as removable storage pricing has stayed elevated across the market. Neither Samsung nor the retailers cited in the report commented on how long the sale prices would remain in effect.
